Swiss-Belgian commercial artist Leo Marfurt was born in Aarau in 1894 and moved to Belgium in 1921, where he married in 1922.

In 1927, he established his own business in Brussels called Les Créations Publicitaires (“Advertising Creations”). His clients included the Brussels World Fairs in 1935 and 1958, Minerva automobiles, Chrysler, Belga cigarettes, cross-channel ferries, and railways in both Belgium and the United Kingdom.

Marfurt was best known for his 1930s posters, which featured an innovative Art Deco style that occasionally incorporated elements of Futurism, Cubism, and Surrealism.

Leo Marfurt died in Antwerp in 1977.
