Moooi expands its imaginative universe beyond lighting and furniture with the launch of its first-ever ceramic surfaces collection, The Nesting Room. Developed in collaboration with Italian ceramics innovator ABK Group, the new line translates Moooi’s signature blend of fantasy, refinement, and multi-sensory storytelling into architectural form. Crafted in full-body porcelain stoneware, each surface transforms walls and floors into serene landscapes of texture, rhythm, and quiet contemplation.
Inspired by Moooi’s Extinct Animals universe and nature’s regenerative cycles, the collection introduces three motifs – Hypnotic Owl, Reiki Rhea, and Cloistered Dove – each embodying the calm, ritual, and balance of nature’s most tranquil creatures. Neutral, sand-like bases act as grounding foundations, while refined decorative patterns introduce subtle movement and depth. Available in four versatile formats (120×280, 120×120, 60×120, and 60×60), the tiles are designed to mix and combine seamlessly across rooms, offering creative freedom for both residential and hospitality interiors.
The collection made its official debut at Cersaie 2025 in Bologna with The Nesting Room, a multi-sensory installation presented within the ABK Group stand. Conceived as a sequence of immersive spaces centered on wellness, meditation, and protection, the installation unfolded as a dreamy sanctuary enhanced by Moooi lighting, furniture, and fragrance.
At the heart of the collection is a philosophy of stillness as a design value. Drawing from natural landscapes – sand dunes, volcanic terrain, and organic mineral textures – The Nesting Room introduces a palette of earthy tones such as Ivory, Hay, Powder, Terracotta, Concrete, and Volcano. These base surfaces are intentionally understated, offering a calm architectural foundation that allows texture, light, and pattern to gently unfold throughout a space.
“The Nesting Room is not just about surfaces; it is about creating sanctuaries of stillness where people can reconnect with themselves and the world around them,” explains Marcel Wanders, Moooi’s founder and creative director. In a world of constant motion and endless notifications, the installation offered visitors a rare invitation to pause – arriving imbalanced and leaving restored.
Adding another dimension, select surfaces within the collection employ ABK’s 3DTECH technology, creating tactile reliefs that play with light and shadow. These sculptural textures invite touch as much as visual engagement, enriching spaces such as bathrooms, spas, bedrooms, and wellness areas. Rather than acting as accents alone, the relief surfaces are intended to be integrated throughout an interior, reinforcing the idea of surfaces as experiential elements that are both seen and felt.
Beyond the exhibition, Moooi’s ceramic surfaces allow designers to recreate that same calming atmosphere in everyday spaces. From large statement slabs featuring full-scale animal muses to repeating decorative fields and tactile 3D surfaces, each panel lends a luxurious, artisanal quality to walls, floors, and even custom furnishings. Repetitive motifs soften architecture through rhythm and texture, while a limited series of Special Edition bird panels adds a more dramatic, poetic presence – watchful silhouettes that quietly animate the interior. Who says zen spaces can’t show a little plume?
