— Tuoba announced that it recently hosted a technical team from a German automotive OEM for an on-site factory visit and production evaluation at its brake pad manufacturing facility in China.
According to the company, the visit gave the customer’s technical representatives direct access to Tuoba’s brake pad production environment, manufacturing processes, quality-management practices and testing capabilities. The evaluation covered the production flow from incoming raw materials through mixing, molding, heat treatment, finishing, inspection and packaging.
The visit was arranged as part of the customer’s supplier-evaluation process. Because the customer’s identity and project details are subject to confidentiality, Tuoba is not disclosing the OEM’s name or the specific vehicle applications under discussion.
“A factory visit is an important opportunity for both sides to communicate openly,” said Eva, sales director at Tuoba. “Customers can see how we manage production and quality, while our engineering and manufacturing teams can better understand the customer’s technical expectations. That transparency is the starting point for a reliable, long-term OEM relationship.”
Review of the Manufacturing Process
During the production tour, the German technical team reviewed Tuoba’s automated and semi-automated brake pad manufacturing equipment and discussed the controls used throughout the production process.
The visit began with raw-material management, including incoming inspection, storage, identification and batch handling. Tuoba said these controls are intended to help maintain formulation consistency and support material traceability.
The customer then observed key manufacturing stages, including friction-material preparation, backing-plate processing, molding, curing, surface treatment, grinding and product assembly. Tuoba representatives explained how operating parameters are established, monitored and recorded for different formulations and product references.
The evaluation also covered final inspection and packaging. Depending on the product and project requirements, Tuoba said inspections may include appearance, dimensions, material characteristics, accessory installation, labeling and packaging verification. For OEM and private-label programs, product identification, technical documentation and packaging requirements are coordinated with the customer’s approved specifications.
Automation was another focus of the visit. Tuoba said it has continued to introduce automated equipment to improve process stability, production efficiency and repeatability. The company uses automation together with operator training, preventive maintenance and in-process inspection as part of its production-control system.
Quality Management and Product Traceability
The technical discussions extended beyond manufacturing equipment to the systems used to manage quality across the facility. Tuoba presented its approach to process control, inspection records, nonconforming-product management, corrective actions and production traceability. The teams also discussed documentation expectations for potential OEM development and validation work.
According to the company, Tuoba operates under an automotive quality-management framework that includes IATF 16949 and related ISO management systems. Tuoba supports products and projects involving market requirements such as ECE R90, FMVSS 135, AMECA and applicable national standards, depending on the vehicle, destination market and customer program.
Testing and Technical Cooperation
The visiting team also reviewed Tuoba’s brake pad production technology, product-development capabilities and testing systems.
Brake pad performance is generally evaluated according to the intended vehicle, axle, operating environment and applicable regulatory requirements. Different markets and applications may require adjustments in friction behavior, wear, noise, thermal stability and other characteristics.
Tuoba develops and supplies ceramic, semi-metallic, low-metallic and other friction-material solutions for passenger vehicles, commercial vehicles and heavy-duty applications. According to the company, its engineering work can include reference-sample analysis, formulation selection, prototype preparation, dimensional verification and performance testing. Validation plans are determined according to the project scope and customer requirements.
Direct communication between the engineering teams was an important part of the visit. The German customer’s representatives raised questions at different stages of production, while Tuoba’s technical personnel explained existing controls and discussed how project-specific requirements could be incorporated into future development work.
Manufacturing Capacity for International Programs
Founded in 2006, Tuoba operates a 43,000-square-meter primary manufacturing facility in China. The company reports monthly production capacity of more than 300,000 sets of brake pads and annual capacity of more than 600,000 brake shoe assemblies.
Tuoba’s product range includes brake pads, brake linings and assembled drum brake shoes for passenger vehicles, trucks, trailers and other commercial-vehicle applications. The company serves OEM, aftermarket and private-label customers in international markets.
According to Tuoba, its project support may include product selection, custom formulation development, sample preparation, testing coordination, customized packaging and production planning. The scope is agreed with each customer according to technical, regulatory and commercial requirements.
Supporting Localized Brake Pad Production Overseas
In addition to its OEM and private-label manufacturing programs, Tuoba said it is in active discussions with other international manufacturers and project partners regarding the establishment of localized brake pad production lines in overseas markets.
Depending on project requirements, Tuoba’s proposed turnkey solution may cover production-line planning, brake pad manufacturing equipment selection and supply, raw-material sourcing, formulation matching, mixing, molding, curing and finishing process guidance, equipment commissioning coordination, personnel training, quality control and after-sales technical support.
According to the company, the objective is to help overseas partners develop localized manufacturing capabilities while establishing clear procedures for process validation, product testing, regulatory compliance and ongoing raw-material supply.
The projects are currently progressing through technical requirement collection, solution development and commercial evaluation. Tuoba has not announced the completion or production launch of any related overseas facility.
Supporting Cooperation Through Transparency
Tuoba said the factory evaluation reflects its approach to international OEM cooperation by allowing customers to examine manufacturing conditions directly, communicate with responsible teams and assess whether the facility is suitable for their programs.
The company views supplier evaluations as a two-way process. Customers assess manufacturing and quality-management capabilities, while the supplier gains a clearer understanding of performance targets, documentation expectations, approval procedures and long-term supply requirements.
Following the visit, the teams are expected to continue technical and commercial discussions based on the customer’s evaluation and project requirements. Any future cooperation will remain subject to product validation, commercial agreement and the customer’s internal approval process. Tuoba is not describing the visit as supplier approval or confirmation of a production contract.
“Trust in an OEM program is built through evidence, communication and consistent execution,” Eva said. “We appreciate the time the customer’s technical team invested in this evaluation. We look forward to continuing the discussion and exploring how Tuoba can support the project responsibly over the long term.”
