Bang & Olufsen’s Atelier Editions arrives with a new seasonal update, this time looking to the heavens and the mesmerizing atmospheric miracle known as the Northern Lights for inspiration, tinting both the Beoplay EX and Beosound 2 3rd Gen a hue described as Northern Sky Turquoise.
The latest limited-edition design from the Danish brand’s bespoke Atelier Editions series wears a sheen of tranquility – an icy gradient inspired by the soothing hues of a winter’s night illuminated by the shimmer of the aurora borealis. Compared to last season’s spring spirited Lilac editions or gradients of green, the brisk Northern Sky Turquoise finish is more subtly tinted, but still wear Bang & Olufsen’s signature high-grade aluminum finish.
“One by one, each Beosound 2 is carefully anodized following a delicate method, where the aluminum piece is slowly dipped upside down into the turquoise color bath,” explains Christian Bauers, Director of Bang & Olufsen Atelier. “The speed at which the operator dips the piece gradually increases to the beat of a metronome as it gets immersed deeper in the color bath, ensuring a high saturation at the top and a subtle finish at the bottom.“
Bang & Olufsen continue to breathe new life into well established designs like the cone-shaped Beosound 2, a wireless speaker originally launched in 2016. Color refreshes and software updates have kept the speaker relevant now in its third iteration, most notably with the inclusion of Mozart, a software platform Bang & Olufsen introduced as a future-proofing strategy engineered to give the 360-degree speaker the ability to be paired in stereo mode, refine in-app setup, and improve Wi-Fi performance.
Noting the premium associated with investing in a B&O system, technologies like Mozart and the recently launched Beoconnect Core operate as a sort of insurance policy against obsolescence.
Beoplay EX active noise cancellation (ANC) earbuds are also getting the Northern Sky Turquoise treatment. Outfitted with a 9.2mm driver in each earbud with waterproof IP57-rated construction, all versions of the Beoplay EX – Atelier Editions and standard models – are rated for listening up to 6 hours with ANC on, or 8 hours with ANC off, with a wireless charging case a built-in feature.
Following previous Atelier Editions releases, Bang & Olufsen is making a paltry amount of their $5,699 Beosound 2 Northern Sky Turquoise available, with a mere 48 units set to be sold exclusively in Europe. Chances improve if you’ve got your heart set on a pair of Beoplay EX Northern Sky Turquoise earbuds, with 100 units scheduled for release for $699.
