Scott Newlin’s Modular Torre Vases Turn Pottery Into Play

  • by

Modular furniture? Yes, please. Modular lighting? We’ll never say no. Modular ceramics? We’re all in. Brooklyn-based industrial designer Scott Newlin’s new Torre vase collection, which includes the Torre 1, Torre 2, and Torre 3 vases, turns the age-old craft of pottery into a fun, stackable playground. Inspired by the skylines of cities like New York and Hong Kong, these ceramic towers are playful, not precious, ready to evolve with your mood, flowers, or shelf space.

To bring his vision to life through your screen, Newlin teamed up with Moonshake to create a dynamic, dimensional video (above) that captures the spirit of Torre in motion. Known for their signature blend of visual wit and technical precision, Moonshake transforms form into movement, highlighting Torre’s modular flexibility, playful geometry, and endless stacking possibilities.

Torre, which means “tower” in Italian, is aptly named. Each piece in the collection is a hand-thrown ceramic module, all carefully measured, trimmed, and spray-glazed at the non-profit ceramic studio, Powerhouse Arts, in Brooklyn. The components invite endless configurations that can be changed up in a snap – like LEGO for design lovers. On their own, the forms are abstract, with no specific function, but when connected, they become watertight, architectural sculptures for holding your fresh blooms. With a variety of shapes, glazes, and finishes to mix and match, Torre is an open-ended invitation to build something uniquely yours.

The collection is currently available through the design gallery DUDD HAUS. Whether stacked high or kept delightfully simple, Torre brings a sense of play to the everyday and elevates the ritual of bringing nature indoors.
