Dezeen Showroom: designer Andreas Engesvik worked with furniture brand Fogia to create a dining version of its iconic Bollo lounge chair, which shares the same bulbous cushions in a more compact, upright form.
The Bollo dining chair was designed for use at a table, with a higher seat and more supportive backrest to facilitate long periods of dining and conversing.
The Bollo dining chair is an evolution of the original
“The idea was to bring that same generosity of comfort into a social setting,” said Andreas Engesvik. “We wanted a dining chair that invites people to stay, to talk to feel at ease — just like the original Bollo.”
Fogia explained that the brand and Engesvik had aimed for the original Bollo lounge chair to be a “typical Scandinavian lounge chair” – minimal and restrained – but once they became preoccupied with comfort, the product’s distinctive voluminous form emerged, with bulging cushions that enwrap the thin metal frame.
It is designed for table use and ergonomics
“This tension between lightness and volume has become the defining gesture of Bollo,” said Fogia.
The Bollo chair is made in Fogia’s factory and available in a range of upholstery options, including natural wool, linen and aniline leather.
