Buggyra drivers finished the demanding Dakar Rally in style. Šoltys enjoyed driving along the sea, Poslední drifted

  • by

In the final thirteenth stage of the Dakar Rally, both truck drivers competing in Buggyra ZM Racing colors finished inside the top ten.

— Martin Šoltys set the second-fastest time in his Buggyra Invictus. Unfortunately, a subsequent penalty dropped him to fifth place. Karel Poslední finished ninth in his Tatra Buggyra EVO3.

After several tough days, Martin Šoltys enjoyed a strong final stage. “We finished just seven seconds behind the leader, which is incredible. Then we received a 30-second penalty, probably for speeding. All it takes is exceeding 135 km/h for more than two or three seconds and you’re immediately penalized,” said the Buggyra Invictus driver.

Even the final stage was no easy cruise. “It was a brutal flat-out run. We drove behind Žala for the first half of the stage, he was kicking up dust and it was impossible to overtake him. After the neutralization, the race continued along the sea. There was no dust, we could drive fast, and we managed to overtake Žala. The stage went really well for us,” Šoltys explained.

After major technical problems earlier in the rally, the Buggyra Invictus truck quite literally rose from the ashes in the closing stages of the Dakar. “That’s thanks to the mechanics, the crew, and everyone here. I’m glad we didn’t give up halfway through, when everyone was telling us to just forget it. At least this shows that Dakar is tough and that you must never give up,” said Šoltys, who finished 22nd overall.

Karel Poslední also had a very successful final day. “Today was great. In the morning, we went swimming with our chief engineer Robin Dolejš. Then we came back for breakfast, had eggs, and took it easy. The stage had a fantastic atmosphere. We were flying along beautiful straights by the sea. We took a few corners in a drift. It was awesome,” said the Tatra Buggyra EVO3 driver enthusiastically.

Poslední also had his share of technical issues during the Dakar Rally, but otherwise he thoroughly enjoyed the event. “Dakar was great. Apart from the technical problems, we enjoyed it. Every Dakar is a good one when you make it to the finish,” said the driver, who finished 19th in the overall truck classification.
