A ‘Jarring’ Victorian Home Resolved With Colour, Art, + Joinery

This Mosman house was presented to Ioanna Lennox Interiors in a somewhat unfortunate yet common condition for a Victorian home in Australia today. Jarring renovations over time had left the home in a mismatched state, calling for improvements to its flow, light, and functionality.
Specialists in preserving period features while adding comfortable contemporary additions, Ioanna Lennox Interiors completely gutted and remodelled the second half of the home’s ground floor. The kitchen, dining room, laundry, and powder room were all resolved with a hint of mid-century style, alongside the original rooms punctuated with gorgeous colour and art.

A Mindful Multi-Generational Family Home In Clifton Hill

Creating a brand new home that respects the heritage context of an existing streetscape is no easy feat.
So when Clare Cousins Architects were enlisted to replace a post-war cottage in Clifton Hill with a large, multi-generational family home, the architects started by drawing inspiration from what was already there.
The resulting Esplanade House features salvaged bricks from the site’s original property, thoughtfully incorporating the past into its intriguing design — woven together with Fiona Brockhoff-designed gardens.

A Colourful Extension Inspired By Clinker Bricks

A ‘clinker’ is a type of red brick that has been misfired, overcooked or burnt, a process which gives them a mottled blue-ish black, orangey-red tonality. They were previously discarded as a material until the 1930s, when they were popularised to build modest, cookie-cutter dwellings en masse like this one in Preston.
The new owners engaged Wowowa to create an extension that would be in keeping with the home’s clinker brick personality, art deco features and their own modern preferences.
The result is this raspberry and duck egg blue marvel. Hey, presto!

A Hawthorn Home Enveloped In Dreamy, Layered Gardens

‘Wild’ and ‘organic’ aren’t the first words that come to mind when you think of the traditional backyards in Melbourne’s eastern suburbs.
But landscape design studio Peachy Green have created something unique at this new Hawthorn home, with a diverse and textural planting scheme that’s reminiscent of a ‘woody meadow’.
The family residence is surrounded in thoughtful, layered garden spaces, which soften the white-brick exterior with evolving shades of green and pastel flowers.
