Fundamentals tiles by Tom van Soest for Blended

  • by

Dezeen Showroom: Dutch design brand Blended has released a collection of handmade ceramic tiles made out of materials sourced from local demolition sites.

Fundamentals tiles are made by collecting and crushing demolition waste, which is then shaped, dried, glazed and fired by hand in a production environment that is fully fossil-free, according to Blended.

Tea Time is a pale green shade spotted with tiny dark freckles

The resulting tiles have a mottled, tactile surface finish that “intentionally reveals the natural character and origin of the material”.

“The collection feels natural and grounded, with a clear connection to the materials that shaped it,” said Blended.

Users can mix and match colours and sizes

Users can select from eleven flecked colourways, from neutrals such as Vintage Sofa and Hot Desert to more pigmented shades, including deep green Forrest Road and dark blue Deep Dive.

Blended intends for the tiles to be used across both domestic and commercial interiors, such as kitchens, bathrooms, hospitality spaces and retail environments.
