Ghezzi chair by Tom Black

  • by

Dezeen Showroom: Australian interior designer Tom Black looked to the curved fonts on traditional Italian handwritten signage when creating this chair.

Supported by a steel frame, the Ghezzi chair is characterised by looped forms folded on top of each other and upholstered in velvety fabric.

Black was informed by the shapes present in the many handwritten signs that once populated Rome – a cursive typographic style that still appears in more contemporary iterations to advertise shops and restaurants.

Ghezzi is available in a handful of coloured fabrics, ranging from chocolate and copper to moss and brass.

Soft to the touch, the low-slung chair was designed to subtly evoke memories of Rome.

“The cursive writing is prominent throughout Italian towns and cities and resonates with an era of handwritten signage,” said Black.
