The Chicana-owned Bay Area agency If Only Creative has unveiled its latest work: a comprehensive brand refresh for Date Better, the indulgent Medjool date snack brand. The design update arrives as Date Better readies its launch into Whole Foods and other major retail outlets, with packaging crafted to heighten visibility and spark stronger connections with shoppers in crowded snack aisles.
Date Better grew from a humble start-up into a brand with larger ambitions. When the opportunity to sell in Whole Foods came, the team asked If Only to bring their new packaging vision to life.
To start, If Only Creative rebuilt the packaging architecture to bring flavor to the forefront, introduced a bold color system assigning each product its own palette, and prioritized crave-worthy signposting through prominent flavor names and ingredient call-outs.
Beyond visuals, the agency amplified Date Better’s unique voice. The back-of-pack was reimagined as a storytelling canvas—educating and enticing with wit and personality. With lines like “These dates won’t ghost you” and “Snack your way to a better life,” the brand now confidently leans into its playful, approachable energy.
Let’s talk typography! Salvaje Display Regular brings more personality and delivers modernity and legibility for key claims, while Aktiv Grotesk adds warmth and narrative charm. The system is enriched with editorial-level photography, cheerful iconography, and graphic elements inspired by the natural textures of dates, caramel, and cacao.
Getting to collaborate with another Chicana-owned business like Date Better feels like coming full circle.
If Only Creative
If Only Creative maintained the integrity of Date Better’s logo while building a refreshed brand world around it. The agency overhauled the website, integrated crave-worthy new photography, and built a design system flexible enough to carry across DTC, digital, and retail channels.
The result is a brand evolution that shifts Date Better from a functional snack to a full lifestyle moment—delicious, confident, and ready for national growth. Date Better’s brand refresh underscores the kind of evolution every brand needs when it’s ready to scale. With a more distinctive presence on the shelf, Date Better is positioned not only to stand out today but also to build a lasting brand heritage for the future.
The collaboration is not the first for If Only Creative and Date Better; the teams have been working together for over two years, and they may be cooking up some other surprises. Stay tuned.
