Stasys Eidrigevičius makes masks—not to hide behind, but to be seen. It’s something of a paradox, and his most current collection can be found within a grand, beautiful eponymous museum.
The arist, illustrator and graphic designer is from Lithuania (side note: at the turn of the century, my grandfather sailed from Vilnus to New York City). In the ’70s Stasys emigrated to Poland, developed a reputation as a world-class poster artist, and came to New York to scare up some illustration work. He then proceeded to make a reputation throughout the world—and today his Stasys Mu.s.e.um can be found in Panevezys, Lithuania.
