This is the day when we celebrate the people who’ve sacrificed their lives for freedom, justice and equity. So at PRINT, we’re reprising this 2018 testament to Uncle Sam. Take a moment to pay homage to the protectors of our Constitution today.
“Made in America” and “America First” are Trump buzzwords. But Uncle Sam has long come to the aid of retailers. When World War I started, he was employed by many businesses to help move merchandise. Buying American-made things helped the war effort, as the advertisement published on the back cover of Life below proclaim.
Life, America’s most popular humor magazine, turned on the patriotic faucets when the Great War began, first with ads like the one above … but there is something a little odd about the how the two children below are giving the Roman salute to the soldiers in front of their stately balcony. But maybe that’s only in the eyes of this beholder …
