This week on Dezeen, president Donald Trump revealed plans to add a neoclassical ballroom to the White House in Washington DC.

Trump commissioned architecture firm McCrery Architects to design the neoclassical ballroom, which will be built on the side of the East Wing.

Neom was reported to be planning widespread redundancies

In Saudi Arabia, mega project Neom is reportedly planning widespread staff redundancies and relocations as part of a wide-ranging strategic review.

According to a report by news website Semafor, Neom is “considering significantly cutting its workforce” with 1,000 employees planned to be made redundant and another 1,000 set to be relocated.

Tesla unveiled a diner

Also in architecture news, car brand Tesla unveiled a “classic American diner” in Los Angeles.

Designed by architecture studio Stantec, the “retro-futuristic” eatery serves meals in Cybertruck packaging and has parking reserved for electric vehicles only.

The Eames Institute revealed its plans for a design museum

Elsewhere in the US, the Eames Institute announced plans to create a design museum within a former 1960s warehouse in California.

Set to be developed by architecture studios Herzog & de Meuron and EHDD, the “world-class art and design museum” will occupy a concrete building designed by modernist architect John Savage Bolles, which was most recently owned by Birkenstock.
