Dezeen Showroom: a pendant lamp characterised by a shade made from taut, translucent black textile has been designed by studio Geckeler Michels for German brand Arkoslight.
The Warp lamp‘s shade is made with an elastic black textile that allows light to filter through in a soft, gradient-like way. Instead of a conventional bulb, the light is cast from a flat LED light source hidden inside.
The Warp pendant is covered with a translucent, elastic textile
Quick and easy assembly from flatpack is also enabled by the lamp’s textile materiality – gravity helps the pendant to take shape naturally once suspended.
“Warp explores the fluidity and transparency of the textile in a simple gesture,” said Geckeler Michels.
Its form takes shape naturally when the pendant is hung up
“The way in which its transparency filters the light and the tactile richness of the textile stand out at first glance,” added Arkoslight.
The Warp lamp is named after concepts detailed in Einstein’s theory of spatial relativity, including those concerning distortion and black holes. It is available in two sizes.
