battersea power station scoops grand award

  • by

The rooftop gardens at Battersea Power Station have won the prestigious Grand Prize at the National Landscape Awards 2023 which are organized by the British Association of Landscape Industries. Already a principal award winner in its category of “regeneration scheme over £500k”, the project also won the top prize across all the categories and was won by Willerby Landscapes who built and maintain the gardens.

The judging panel said:

“The statistics on this incredibly impressive project illustrate both its complexity and the high levels of project management and technical and horticultural skill required to bring it to successful fruition. Every aspect of this scheme, from planning and design, site preparation, health and safety, and logistics, to the craftsmanship, horticultural expertise, and detailing, has been exemplary. Where problems are seen as opportunities to excel and perfection is the collective goal, it is little wonder that the industry has long been used to using this contractor’s achievements as a benchmark. It seems they have raised that benchmark once again.”

Andy Sturgeon says:

“The power station was an incredibly complex project in so many ways and it is often these challenging projects which are the most rewarding. But they rely on world class contractors and Willerby Landscapes truly deserved to win this Grand Award which is the most prestigious accolade for a landscape project in the UK”
