Beach Blankets, Bell-Bottoms & Bold Type

  • by

Summer may be over, but we’re not quite ready to pack away the beach blankets, sunscreen, and memories of long, hot afternoons, especially since those long, hot afternoons don’t seem to be going anywhere! Luckily, Graphics from Typeverything has enough sunshine and ’70s swagger to keep us warm well into November.

Released last season, this bold display face draws from the visual exuberance of disco posters, early digital aesthetics, and an era when the future looked groovy, graphic, and full of possibility. Remember possibility? Yeah, it was a thing.

The chunky, tightly packed forms of Graphics feel equally at home on a vintage beach towel, a faded surf shop sign, or a poster from college (or high school?) that you dug up in the back of your closet.

Graphics keeps its construction simple: one heavy style, monolinear forms, modular shapes, and tiny dots of negative space that puncture all that weight. There are hints of ’70s editorial typography, but this isn’t just nostalgia and tie-dye. The forms are crisp and contemporary, giving the typeface plenty of room to play on posters, book covers, logos, and very big headlines.

Summer may have left the building, but Graphics is keeping the sunshine around a little longer.
