China Automotive Engineering Research Institute Unveils ‘Silk Road Connector’ Global Expansion Initiative at Beijing Auto Show

  • by

— During the 2026 Beijing International Automotive Exhibition, China Automotive Engineering Research Institute Co., Ltd. (hereinafter referred to as “CAERI”) officially released its “Silk Road Connector” global expansion initiative. Targeting key pain points in the high-quality international expansion of China’s automotive industry, the plan establishes four major programs—“Silk Road R&D and Testing,” “Market Access Connectivity,” “Integrated Support Assurance,” and “Compliance Foundation Building.” It also deepens the development of five major overseas centers, positioning CAERI as a trusted quality service partner for global automotive operations. The event also featured the launch of an Automotive Data Cross-Border Service Platform and the awarding ceremony for the second batch of data collection units under Technical Barriers to Trade (TBT).

This series of major initiatives marks a milestone step for CAERI, as a “national team” in automotive technical services, in safeguarding the global operations of Chinese OEMs and breaking down international trade barriers.

Strategic Leadership: “Silk Road Connector” Opens a New Chapter in Full-Chain Support

As China’s automotive exports continue to expand, industry competition has entered a new phase of deep engagement in global operational systems. Facing increasingly complex international business environments and differentiated market access requirements, CAERI leverages its state-owned enterprise background and strong technical foundation to implement a “one region, one strategy” approach, focusing on five key regions: Europe, Southeast Asia, the Middle East, Central Asia, and Japan & Korea.

Through deep coordination between “domestic support + global touchpoints,” CAERI will deliver one-step solutions covering technical consulting, metrology, testing, inspection, and certification. This initiative not only supports product exports but also promotes the coordinated global expansion of Chinese standards, services, and regulatory frameworks, helping OEMs transition from “going out” to “settling in.”

Deep Localization: Building Core Overseas Capability Systems

The launch event also provided a detailed interpretation of CAERI’s four core localization initiatives. These include continuously advancing localized service deployment, establishing regional green channels for certification through “localized compliance + global mutual recognition,” and leveraging comprehensive road testing networks to provide full-scenario solutions ranging from environmental adaptability to advanced intelligent driving.

In the aftermarket area, CAERI is developing systems for maintenance, training, and energy replenishment to address overseas service and charging challenges. Additionally, through quality services, it conducts extreme-environment failure analysis to strengthen the safety and reputation foundation of Chinese automotive brands overseas.

Data Empowerment: Cross-Border Automotive Data Service Platform Addresses Global Compliance Challenges

As Chinese OEMs accelerate their global expansion, cross-border data compliance has become a critical challenge. At the event, CAERI officially launched its “Automotive Data Cross-Border Service Platform.”

The platform addresses the complexities arising from varying data security laws across countries by offering efficient digital governance solutions. By integrating data compliance requirements from major global automotive markets, the platform provides services such as data export security consulting, risk self-assessment, and full lifecycle data governance. Its launch effectively resolves issues related to restricted data flows and complex regulatory environments, establishing a secure foundation for the global digital operations of Chinese OEMs.

Industry Collaboration: Tianjin TBT Base Awards Information Collection Points

As Chinese OEMs continue expanding into overseas markets, Technical Barriers to Trade (TBT) have become a key compliance challenge. During the event, the Tianjin Automotive Product TBT Research and Evaluation Base held an awarding ceremony for its second batch of information collection points. Newly added entities include SAIC-GM-Wuling Automobile Co., Ltd., Great Wall Motor Company Limited, and Donggang Port Yantai Port Group Co., Ltd.

This milestone signifies that more industry players are joining the TBT information collection network, collectively strengthening the sector’s ability to address overseas technical trade barriers. Going forward, the Tianjin TBT Base will rely on these collection points to provide ongoing support in standards, regulations, and conformity assessment, helping Chinese OEMs achieve both technical compliance and market expansion.

Through the combined efforts of government, enterprises, and research institutions, CAERI is driving the co-development of a global regulatory and standards database, resolving regional disparities, and building core capabilities to support the high-quality global expansion of Chinese brands.

As a “national team” in automotive technical services, CAERI continues to shoulder the responsibility of supporting industry development. The release of this strategy and platform not only demonstrates its comprehensive technical service capabilities but also highlights its commitment to supporting the global growth of China’s automotive industry. Moving forward, CAERI will leverage its nationwide laboratory network and global service touchpoints to advance alongside Chinese OEMs, jointly shaping a reliable and trusted “Made in China” image in international markets.
