Foreign Influencers Explore Xiamen: Immersing Themselves in Its Ancient Charm and Modern Vitality

— Recently, a group of internet celebrities and content creators from France, the Republic of Korea, Malaysia, Nepal, Mexico, Vietnam, Indonesia, and other countries gathered in Xiamen, marking the successful conclusion of the “Foreign Influencers Are Here” city experience event. The influencers immersed themselves in the city’s scenic spots, cultural heritages, ecological initiatives, and tech industries. From an overseas perspective, they recorded Xiamen’s development achievements as a “high-quality, attractive, international and modern” city in an all-round way, presenting a vivid, three-dimensional and comprehensive Xiamen to the world.

The event brought together popular influencers from various countries to tour Xiamen’s cultural and tourism landmarks, ecological landscapes, science and technology innovation hubs, and historical blocks. Among them were Korean vloggers Park Dae-il and Heo Da-in, Malaysian Low Jia Fang, Vietnamese Tieu Thanh, Nepali Akshar, and Mexican Mercedes. Following a well-designed route, they experienced the diverse charm of Xiamen — from historical heritage to modern industries, from ecological livability to open innovation.

As one of China’s earliest special economic zones, Xiamen has been committed to coordinating ecological governance and urban development. A highlight of the tour was seeing the results firsthand. From the rippling Yundang Lake and the relaxing Xidi Coffee Street, to the Mountains-to-Sea Trail connecting urban area with nature, and the pristine shores along Huandao Road and Gulangyu, Xiamen embodies the harmony between mountains, sea, and green city. Strolling through the city’s ecological spaces, the foreign influencers witnessed Xiamen’s transformation from a bay area into an “urban living room”, and spoke highly of the city’s efforts in ecological restoration and environmental governance. British vlogger Luke remarked: “Xiamen integrates nature and urban planning so harmoniously. With clean seas and green spaces everywhere, it’s a truly green city that makes me feel comfortable and relaxed.”

While marveling at Xiamen’s ecological beauty, the vloggers were also deeply impressed by its technological vitality and innovative industries. As one of the earliest cities in China to develop the artificial intelligence (AI) industry, Xiamen ranks among China’s top ten AI cities in terms of comprehensive strength. During the tour, the influencers experienced smart services at a robot retail store on Zhongshan Road, test-drove new energy vehicles, and explored the integrated application of digital technology and intangible cultural heritage, seeing firsthand the vitality of Xiamen’s tech industries. Korean influencer Heo Da-in said after trying the smart services:“Technology is everywhere in Xiamen. The interaction between traditional blocks and AI can produce wonderful sparks,so the city feels truly futuristic.”

The Minnan cultural heritage is the defining feature of Xiamen, dubbed the “Garden on the Sea”. At the Huandao Road, Wuyuan Bay Yacht Marina and on the Lujiang River Night Cruise, the influencers enjoyed the romance and vitality of the coastal city. They explored century-old arcades at Zhongshan Road, artistic alleys at Huaxin Road, and the Art Zones at Shapowei, feeling the renewed charm of the old town. At the Yujian Minnan (Time Meets Island) scenic area, they immersed themselves in intangible cultural heritage, watched live performances,and gained a deep appreciation for Minnan culture.

The influencers also enjoyed Xiamen’s signature delicacies, including Shacha noodles, shrimp noodles, Tusun Dong or sea worm jelly, five-spice meat rolls and more. These Minnan cuisine delighted their taste buds. Indonesian influencer Valerina Rima Putri Kuncoro said excitedly after tasting: “The taro paste and seafood balls are amazing, and the fusion of Southeast Asian flavors with Minnan cuisine is perfect.” Malaysian vlogger Low Jia Fang added: “The cultural experiences here are vivid and fun. Intangible cultural heritage is not just for show,we can participate in it and feel it up close, which helps us truly understand the profound heritage of Minnan culture.”

The year 2026 is crucial for China to further open up its inbound tourism market. The Foreign Influencers Are Here event combined overseas perspectives with local storytelling, adopting an innovative communication approach to showcase Xiamen’s ecological beauty, cultural charm, technological innovation and openness to the world. The event not only presented the development achievements of Xiamen Special Economic Zone over the past 45 years, but also told the stories of China and Xiamen from an international perspective, enhancing the global appeal and influence of the “Garden on the Sea”.
