Humanscale partners with Kvadrat in global collaboration

Promotion: New York-based office furniture manufacturer Humanscale has begun a global collaboration with Danish textile brand Kvadrat that seeks to combine ergonomically-sound seating with dynamic upholstery.

Humanscale’s seating collections will be upholstered in a number of Kvadrat’s textiles, including Vanir, a material created by designer Raf Simons ¬†in reference to the appearance of antique woollen military coats and Elle, a curly fabric by Sahco Upholstery.

Seven further fabrics from Kvadrat’s catalogue will be available to be applied to the collections, all coming in various finishes, materials, weave patterns and colourways.

Kvadrat’s knit textiles make Humanscale’s chairs even more tactile

The first of Humanscale’s collections to be upholstered in Kvadrat textiles from 16 October 2023 is the Freedom collection, which includes the Freedom task chair. The chair features a supportive headrest and technology that adapts to the user’s seating position without the need for manual adjustments.

Also included are the Freedom Saddle and Pony seats, which provide smaller-scale, stool-like seating solutions that share the chair’s ergonomic qualities.

November will see the materials applied to some of Humanscale’s sustainable seating solutions such as the Smart Ocean and Liberty Ocean, as well as Trea chairs.

The Smart Ocean and Liberty Ocean¬†chairs are characterised by their materiality, with elements made using recycled plastic that was found discarded in the world’s oceans.

Curly boucle fabrics are included in the collaboration

Come early 2024, the collaboration will expand across Humanscale’s Summa, Smart Conference and Path chairs.

All chairs in Humanscale’s catalogue aim to combine timeless silhouettes and designs with cutting-edge ergonomic technology.

A total of nine fabrics are included in the collaboration

“Humanscale’s collaboration with Kvadrat marks an exciting creative journey to ignite meaningful change on an industrial scale,” said creative director of Humanscale, Todd Bracher.

“Our shared values of design innovation, longevity and sustainability make this partnership a perfect fit.”

Humanscale’s seating can be used in workplaces, home offices and mixed-use environments.

By increasing the spectrum of available upholstery materials, Kvadrat’s textiles allow Humanscale’s chairs to blend into a greater range of interior design schemes and appeal to a greater range of users.
