Steadfast Launches ‘Haven’ to Close the Silent Safety Gap in Carbon Monoxide and Gas Detection

  • by

— Steadfast has announced the official launch of Haven, a real-time monitoring solution designed to eliminate the “silent safety gap” left by traditional carbon monoxide (CO) detectors. While standard alarms are designed for acute emergencies, Haven provides continuous visibility into low-level exposure risks that often go undetected.

Rising Concerns Over Limitations of Traditional CO Detectors

According to data referenced by the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention, more than 100,000 Americans visit emergency rooms annually due to accidental carbon monoxide exposure. Notably, many of these incidents occur in homes equipped with functioning detectors.

Traditional CO detectors are typically calibrated to trigger alarms at 70 parts per million (ppm), a level intended to prevent acute poisoning. However, lower concentrations between 10 and 50 ppm – while not immediately life-threatening – may still pose health risks over time without triggering an alert.

Dual & Real-Time Monitoring Technology

To address this limitation, Steadfast has introduced Haven, a plug-in device designed to provide continuous, real-time monitoring of carbon monoxide and gas levels within the home.

Unlike conventional detectors that activate only during high-level exposure events, Haven displays live readings starting from zero ppm. This approach enables users to track air quality conditions proactively and identify potential issues before they escalate.

Low-Level Exposure Risks

Carbon monoxide is a colorless, odorless, and tasteless gas, making it undetectable without specialized equipment. Gradual exposure from common household sources – such as gas appliances, water heaters, or attached garages – can lead to symptoms that are often misattributed to other causes.

These may include fatigue, headaches, dizziness, and nausea, particularly during colder months when indoor heating systems are in frequent use.

While a majority of CO-related incidents occur during the winter heating season, experts emphasize that exposure risks persist year-round. Improperly ventilated stoves, malfunctioning appliances, and vehicle emissions in enclosed spaces can all contribute to indoor air contamination.

Steadfast states that continuous monitoring solutions can help homeowners maintain awareness regardless of season or source.

Preventive Home Safety Measures

By shifting from reactive alarms to proactive monitoring, Steadfast aims to support earlier detection of potential hazards and reduce the likelihood of emergency incidents.

The company notes that real-time visibility into air quality conditions allows users to take corrective action before exposure levels become dangerous.
