The Tradition Modular Lounge Series Takes the Nordic Vibe Outdoors

  • by

It can’t be denied that clients are leaning into a specific aesthetic when it comes to selecting outdoor furniture with pieces that look as though they belong indoors. Gaining in interest with every season, we want our exterior spaces to feel as thoughtful and well-designed as what’s typically behind closed doors. Fritz Hansen’s new modular lounge series, Tradition, brings the refined sophistication we want and the versatility we need to entertain al fresco. With Tradition, Danish designer Povl B. Eskildsen meets the demands of modern living with the changing of the seasons while highlighting the natural beauty of bent teakwood.

“This collection elaborates on traditional spindle furniture designs, drawing clear references to mid-century renditions of chairs. It looks to the Danish design tradition, fulfilling a function while looking visually appealing,” Eskildsen says of the series. “At the same time, it draws on the way we seek to create personal spaces in furniture design, for rest and relaxation.”

The series’ design and material elevate the outdoor lounging experience to new heights. Simple and functional, Tradition is meticulously shaped and joined by hand using FSC-certified teak heartwood selected for its beauty, strength, and durability. The material will turn into an eye-catching silver-gray hue over time with use. The series is Fritz Hansen’s most exclusive outdoor furniture to date.

“The Tradition modules work perfectly in a private garden or terrace, as well as in larger configurations for outdoor spaces at hotels and restaurants. With Tradition, Fritz Hansen connects the interior design experience with the outdoors, underpinned by distinctive and well-crafted designs by visionary designers,” creative design director Marie-Louise Høstbo adds.

The Tradition series includes a lounge chair, corner/end and spacer modules, a pouf, and two tables that allow for a myriad of combinations. Skilled artisans are required to create every piece, from the seamless finger joints to the carefully concealed dado joints that provide additional durability and stability for the furniture. Quick-dry, open-cell foam cushions are upholstered with weatherproofed, mildew-resistant outdoor fabric that doesn’t lack in comfort or quality and is sure to last. Tradition is perfect for life outdoors, creating a seamless transition between indoor and outdoor living.
