Innovations
Live Captions feature available in more languages
The Live Captioning feature helps all people, including those who are deaf and hard of hearing, read subtitles in their own language. Windows 11 2022 Update only supported English (US) subtitles. Starting with this build, the feature will also support Chinese (simplified and traditional), French, German, Italian, Japanese, Portuguese (Brazil), Spanish, and other dialects of English. The list of languages will be expanded in the future.
Live subtitles can be enabled with keyboard shortcuts WIN + Ctrl + L or from the Quick Actions pop-up menu on the taskbar. At the first start, the function will prompt you to download the necessary components for speech recognition on the device. If speech recognition support is not available in your Windows language of choice, or if you need another language, you can download speech recognition components for the Live captions feature under Settings > Time & Language > Language & Region.
Changes and improvements
- Anchor layouts:
- Microsoft is testing new options for displaying the anchor layout menu among Insiders in the Dev channel. In particular, the possibility of improving the accessibility and use of anchor layouts is being investigated, for example, by reducing the time required to invoke a pop-up menu when hovering the mouse cursor over the Maximize or Restore button in the application’s title bar. In addition, some menu options will display the icon of the window you are working in, as well as a heading describing the function.

- Voice input:
- All Insiders in the Dev channel can now sync their voice input, automatic punctuation, and voice input launcher settings across all devices signed in with the same Microsoft account. This feature originally appeared in build 25277. You can enable this feature in Settings -> Accounts -> Windows Backup -> Remember my settings -> Accessibility. This feature currently only works with Microsoft accounts. AAD support will come later.
- Options:
- Updated the Settings -> Apps -> Startup section to make it easier to access additional information about apps.
- If you right-click on a Win32 application in Start or find the application and select Uninstall, you will now be taken to Options to uninstall the application.
- WSL:
- Improved the update process to the new version of Windows Subsystem for Linux from the Microsoft Store (mentioned in Build 25272). Now when you call wsl.exe, you will be prompted to install.
Fixes
- Are common:
- We fixed an issue with combase.dll that was causing some applications that use the GetKnownFolder API to crash, including Notepad and Windows Terminal for IME users. The issue occurred after updating to Build 25290. It is also believed to be the root cause of the issue causing certain actions in File Explorer to take several minutes to complete.
- Fixed a rendering issue when using the Windows Recovery Environment (WinRE) or a clean installation of the system.
- We fixed an issue resulting in some users experiencing authentication issues on corporate websites that require the use of Windows Integrated Authentication.
- Taskbar and system tray:
- The ability to display seconds in the clock on the taskbar, which was first introduced in build 25247, will return after updating to build 25300 if it disappeared after updating to build 25295.
- We fixed an issue that caused the taskbar to be cut off after changing the resolution.
- We fixed an issue where hovering over app icons in the taskbar could cause an unexpected window focus switch.
- Widgets:
- Input:
- Microsoft has begun rolling out a fix for an issue where the IME suggestion window and the IME toolbar are sometimes missing or cut off.
- Conductor:
- Dragging and dropping files and folders between tabs should work again.
- Task Manager:
- Process names entered in the search box should no longer be spell-checked.
- Fixed several issues with Narrator reading content in Task Manager.
- We fixed an issue where dropdowns in Options might not match the currently selected theme.
- Now, when using search on the Application History page, the results will not suddenly disappear.
- If you open the “Default start page” drop-down list in the “Parameters”, then when you click on the “Task Manager” window, the drop-down list should automatically close.
- Window dragging in the search field area should now work (as it does in other areas of the title bar).
- We fixed an issue where the confirmation dialog was not displayed when ending processes in the Details tab.
- Zooming in on text should no longer result in a “View More” button without any content.
- If you search and then press the down arrow, the keyboard focus will now move to the search results.
- If you have the contrast theme enabled and you have selected one of the rows on the Processes page, that row should now appear highlighted.
- We fixed an issue where the keyboard focus could not be correctly set to the search box, causing Narrator to not announce that the focus was on the search box.
- Other:
- We fixed an issue resulting in Narrator focus not returning to the Quick Actions window when using the back button on the Cast page.
Note. Some of the fixes listed above may be included in cumulative updates for release versions of Windows 11.
Known Issues
- Are common:
- We are investigating an issue that is taking longer than expected for some users to upgrade to new Insider Builds. If you encounter this issue, please submit a new feedback to the Feedback Hub.
- Some AAD users (Azure Active Directory joined) will now see a “Getting Started” screen when they sign in to Windows after updating to the latest Insider Builds. Microsoft is investigating the issue.
- When launching the Group Policy Editor, you may encounter an error stating that the displayName attribute was not found.
- Some devices will not work with Windows Hello for face authentication. Users are encouraged to use a PIN to sign in.
- We are investigating reports that the Windows Insider page reports that a new build is available on Update even if the device is running the latest Dev channel build available.
- [Новое] We are investigating reports that the New button in the Snipping tool is not working for some Insiders after updating to build 25295. If you encounter this issue, please go to Options -> Applications -> Default Applications and set “Scissors” as the default for ms-screenclip links.
- Widgets:
- Engineers are working on a fix for an issue where, in some cases, third-party widgets fail to load correctly.
- Task bar:
- For some Insiders, application icons on the taskbar may appear on the wrong monitor when using a multi-monitor configuration.
- Live captions:
- On Arm64 devices, enhanced speech recognition support will not be configured correctly on the Language and Region page. If speech recognition is not available in your preferred language, use the following workaround:
- Uninstall all “Speech Pack -” applications in “Settings” -> “Applications” -> “Installed applications”.
- Temporarily set the desired language to the first in the list of preferred languages on the Settings -> Time & Language -> Language & Region page.
- Turn on the Live Captions feature.
- Live subtitles for Traditional Chinese do not yet work on Arm64-based devices.
- Some languages displayed on the Language and Region page support speech recognition (such as Korean), but do not yet support live captioning.
- When adding a language using the Language and Region page, the installation progress of language features may be hidden, and you will not see when the installation of Enhanced Speech Recognition (required for Live Captions) is completed. You can use “Language Options” to track progress. If this happens, there may be an unexpected delay before the Live Captions setup system detects the new language and allows you to continue.
- The Language and Region page may not offer the required speech recognition package for up to an hour after the first login.
- Subtitle display speed may be slower when using languages other than English. There is also no detection of languages other than English (United States), which means that incorrect subtitles may be displayed for speech other than the subtitle language.
- On Arm64 devices, enhanced speech recognition support will not be configured correctly on the Language and Region page. If speech recognition is not available in your preferred language, use the following workaround:
